Eric has over 30 years of experience in the film Industry both in production and post. A current ASC Associate member, VES member and previous union member of IATSE 695, 700 and 600. Multi-time VMA winner and part of multiple Academy Award winning films as a VFX artist and supervisor. Eric started his career in the early 90’s working for Charlie Westfall Video Assist, where he was credited with inventing computer based digital video assist. From that begining he went on to work on set as a video assist operator, moving up through the camera department to director and DoP. As a visual effects artist Eric was one of the early adopters of Autodesk Flame and had a major role in the development of Autodesk Combustion. Working at luminary stuios Pixel Envy and Money Shots where he and teams won major awards for some of the biggest music videos of all time with directors such as Francis Lawerance, Brian Barber, Mark Webb, Dave Meyers, and Joeseph Kann to name a few. From Music videos to feature films Eric went on to be the primary visual effects artist for Angels in America with early mentor Richard Edlund (ILM founder) and Ron Simonson, this lead him to an over decade long role as VFX and Comp Supervisor at the legendary Rhythm and Hues Studios where Eric oversaw commericals, films, and special projects from both sides of production. After the close of R+H Eric moved to The Mill Studios and then onto Logan where another nearly decade was spent leading the VFX team to some of the most icon images seen for compnaies like Apple, as the creative director behind the famous AppleTV ScreenSavers his work has been seen litterally billions of times and accounts for roughly 60% of the viewing time on the AppleTV device by all users worldwide. Now the founding owner of DeHaven Camera Rentals (and its accompaning coffee shop House Coffee Co) Eric’s focus on the future by working with young filmakers is his priority as a mentor now himself, giving back what his mentors gave to him. Having worked all over the world (and even, albeit remotely, in space) Eric has vast range of production experience. Half fanatic gear nerd and half story teller makes Eric a unique point of view in the industry.
Eric’s mastery of VFX and Color tools both as an artist and technologist has seen him work on everything from Apple Comericals to The Grey Man for Netflix. He has been a consultant to multiple major technology companys on the design of industry leading equiptment and workflows. Still strong on the box and behind the camera Eric’s wide skill set brings a expert level role to any project
